The Atlanta Prison Farm operated from 1945 to 1995. It intent was to house low risk prisoners guilty of minor crimes, with a system of rehabilitation. The farm grew corn, and the corn fed pigs, and the farm sold the pork to packing houses. In 2009 a fire broke out at the farm. The local fire department refused to answer the call and allowed the fire to burn itself out. The 400 or so acres that made up the farm now sit idle until someone can figure out the legalities of selling the land.
