Additional Details

The Niagara Movement (1905-1909) came out of an heroic gathering of America's more radical black leaders. The Get-together was the brainchild of W.E.B. Du Bois and James Monroe Trotter. The meeting was to take place in Buffalo, NY, but the group, consisting of 26 black men, was turned away by hotels because of their color; they instead met at Niagara Falls. The present piece is both an explanation of what the aims and objects of the Movement were as well as an invitation to attend. Quite scarce, only one institution showing holdings: Harvard, with several pieces of ephemera.
