Additional Details

In the month after the King assassination, the Poor People's Campaign set up a tent city on the Washington mall called Resurrection City, hoping to draw national attention to the related issues of poverty and prejudice. Among the organizers, speakers, and visitors shown in these photographs are Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Ralph Abernathy, Coretta Scott King, and Resurrection City's young leader, the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
