Additional Details

This event took place as the Freedom March participants reached Montgomery from Selma. Their encampment was at the City of St. Jude, a Catholic school and hospital complex. They were treated to performances by an impressive bill even by civil rights rally standards: Sammy Davis, Jr., Mahalia Jackson, Odetta, Dick Gregory, Bobby Darin, Harry Belafonte, Tony Bennett, Nina Simone, Nipsy Russell, Billy Eckstine, and more. The next day the Freedom March concluded at the Alabama State Capitol.
