The four civil rights leaders accepted an invitation from President Johnson, and spent ninety minutes with him at the White House pressing for passage of the Civil Rights Act. Afterward, King expressed hope that "the civil rights bill will be on the floor (of the House) by the end of January." It would pass the House on 10 February, the Senate in June, and receive Johnson's signature on 2 July.
