This group of prominent Philadelphia African American ministers call for a "two-day conference" in June of 1910 to protest the discrimination against American Negroes and discuss strategies to improve their condition. The organizers were all pastors and civil rights activists from Philadelphia's churches. Tindley was a composer of gospel music, and author of "I'll Overcome Some Day," which became "We Shall Overcome" and "Stand by Me," re-written and recorded by Ben E. King and the Drifters.
