Additional Details

A series of posters which were intended to sell the Democratic Party's Civil Rights agenda to voters for the 1960 election. The first poster functions as a title page for the group, reading "You Decide 1960: Civil Rights and Equal Opportunities," and assigning credit to the Democratic National Committee. Others are headed: "18,000,000 American Negro Citizens Look to You for Justice" (3) "New Problems . . . New Opportunities: When Negroes Move from Farm to City" (4) "Only Half-a-Loaf for Negroes when the Whole Loaf is Justice" (5) "Unemployment has Hurt Negroes Twice as Much" (6) "Progress in Housing Made under Democratic Administration has Slowed Down under Republican Administration" (7) "Fair Employment Practices were First Ordered under Democratic Presidents" (8) "Forward Steps to Equality were Made through Democratic Appointments" (9). The posters here are numbered "1" and "CR 3" through "CR 9". Only one other group known at auction, when sheets 1, 3, and 6 appeared at a Swann sale, 27 February 2007, lot 160.
