Additional Details

A letter from Eugene Talmadge, the Governor of Georgia, appealing for funding to run for re-election, together with a pamphlet regarding the Dean Cocking case. Cocking was a progressive who advocated integration, and was being attacked for it. Talmadge, an old-time "Dixie-crat" was avowedly against any sort of integration, saying "Our Fathers and Grand Fathers have lived in peace with the Negroes and the only way this relationship can be continued is the future is through segregation . . ." Integration of the University of Georgia was not to happen until 1961.
