Additional Details

During the summer of 1964, known as Freedom Summer, students from all corners of the United States made their way to Mississippi. There they joined with local COFO (Council of Federated Organizations) workers and local activists in voter registration, developing freedom schools, and creating grass-roots efforts. Working out of his Fourth Street Drug Store, Henry welcomed the young activists and would offer them a Coke and plenty of encouragement as they worked the sweltering Delta region heat to register voters.
