Louis Sharpe (1932-2011) attended Swarthmore High School in Pennsylvania, and later studied law at Harvard College where he became deeply involved with the Civil Rights Movement. Sharpe joined the NAACP in 1953, later at Harvard becoming National Secretary of the NAACP Youth Council. The archive includes a Typed Letter Signed from Roy Wilkins congratulating Sharpe on chairing the June 22 session of the 46th Annual Convention in 1955. There is great deal of NAACP correspondence, plus flyers and broadsides, and numerous mimeographed announcements regarding rallies and meetings, as well as a few student publications like the Winston-Salem Free Student, Volume 1, No 1 for September 1955 and material from the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee. Interspersed throughout the papers are pages taken from small notebooks with notes by Sharpe for the various events and projects; March on Washington, desegregation, Mississippi etc.
