MORE KLAN HUMOR (CIVIL RIGHTS--RACISM.) DESEGREGATION. The Nigger 23rd Psalm. Silver print photograph, 3-1/4x5 inches. [Southern U.S., 1964]

Additional Details

A particularly vile, racist rendition of the 23rd Psalm that appears to have been originally a sign:
"Lyndon is my shepherd, I shall not work/ He maketh me to lie down in front of the theatres; He leadeth me into White Universities, He restoreth my Welfare check, he leadeth me in the path of sit-ins for Communist sake. . . ." It gets more vile and racist as it continues. President Lyndon Baynes Johnson, a Texan was reviled by the traditionally Democratic South, when he continued the work begun by the Kennedy administration that led to the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, 1965 and 1968. From the same collection as the previous lot.
