A rare poster commissioned by the legal defense committee for the Scottsboro Boys. Gellert was the "house arist" for the New Masses, a magazine of the Left. The trial, appeals, changes of venue, etc., made the case of the Scottsboro Boys, accused of the rape of two white women, one of the longest on record in American jurisprudence.
