The indispensable travel guide for African-American families, from a time when long-distance travel would be a cause for apprehension about finding lodging, gasoline, or even a restroom. Friendly service stations, hotels, nightclubs and restaurants are arranged by state across the country--North and South. The cover of this edition states "Carry your Green Book with you . . . You may need it!" This copy was clearly used by its original owners. The entries for the YMCA in Manhattan and a hotel at Niagara Falls are underlined, and a 3-page article on parks has several lines underlined as well, particularly regarding "the non-discriminatory policy of the nation's National Parks"--Yellowstone and Mesa Verde are marked as potential destinations. The last Green Book was printed in 1966. The recent award-winning film "Green Book" features a copy of the book as a plot point.
