Additional Details

The law states that every railroad company "shall provide separate coaches or compartments . . . for the accommodation of white and negro passengers . . . equal in all points of comfort and convenience." Passengers using the wrong car "shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be fined not less than five nor more than twenty-five dollars." This act was passed by the Texas legislature in 1907; the language was altered slightly before the publication of the 1925 "Revised Civil Statutes."
