Albumen prints, each approximately 7x9 inches (17.8x22.9 cm.), or slightly smaller, and one the reverse, each on the original two-toned mount with the photographers' and Gardner's credits, the caption, plate number, and date printed on recto; most with the original printed text sheet laid in; also with two additional plates on the Incidents of the War mount, also with the photographers' and Gardner's credits. 1862-65; printed 1866

Additional Details
The plates from Gardner's Sketchbook were deaccessioned by the New York Historical Society, circa 1992, and acquired by the collector as a group. Ken Burns used these very photographs in his documentary about the Civil War.
