Additional Details

In a New York Times article dated April 10, 1865, Sergeant Peter Hart (ca 1824-1892) is named as the soldier who lowered the flag flying over Fort Sumter when, on April 13, 1861, the fort had to be evacuated due to the attack that ignited the Civil War.
