The clipped portion from the flag, measuring approximately 50x150 mm, is accompanied by a presentation note in pencil indicating that it was given to Mrs. J. M. Austen by Fergus Eliott, the color sergeant of the 109th Pennsylvania Volunteers. The regiment served at important battles including Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg.<
