An attractive portrait of Major General George Henry Thomas (1816-1870), the "Rock of Chickamauga." He did not gain his Major General stars until 15 December 1864. The photographer is unidentified, but this was apparently taken at the same sitting as an E. & H. T. Anthony & Company carte-de-visite at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery.
