"While lying in camp near Ga[y]lesville, several of the officers belonging to the detachments known as Worden's Battalion were relieved & permitted to return to their Regiments, now in Mo, leaving but three officers with the Battalion and none with the rank of Field Officer. There is now a great scarcity of Officers in my command, and I would respectfully request that a Field Officer be assigned to the command of this Battalion. . . ."
