A single-issue Civil War newspaper produced by the men of the 1st Iowa Infantry. They commandeered a Confederate-sympathizing newspaper office while passing through Macon City, Missouri, and issued this newspaper the same evening. On the strength of this effort, editor Franc B. Wilkie was soon hired as war correspondent by the New York Times, according to his 1891 autobiography. Graff 3139. WorldCat lists only 4 copies.
