Additional Details

A defining moment in Sheridan's military career, Sheridan's Ride occurred at the Battle of Cedar Creek on 19 October 1864. When the battle began, Sheridan was almost 20 miles away, but as Jubal Early's Confederate forces were about to gain a victory, Sheridan swept in after a furious ride, rallied the troops and repulsed the attack.
