In full: "I will thank you to furnish this Department with a list setting forth the cost of your best quality of ornamented revolvers, mounted with sold, silver, &c." Colt was by this point the best-known weapons manufacturer in the world, though he had been criticized early in the war for supplying both the North and South. He died of gout the following January at age 47.
