This patriotic handbill was probably produced between the 3 April fall of Richmond and the 9 April surrender at Appomattox. The central flag, with its unusual star pattern, bears only 34 stars, although West Virginia had already become the 35th state. The same illustration, without the caption text, was used in a Philadelphia campaign poster for "Alderman, Richard Donagan Fifth Ward" held by the Library Company of Philadelphia. Only one other copy traced at auction, which sold at Swann on 23 March 1985 and again on 25 November 2014. One in OCLC (University of Virginia).
