This small-town Indiana paper announces the birth of the Confederate States of America six days previously, and the election of Jefferson Davis as its president. Also announces a bipartisan rally at the Bluffton court house in favor of the still-pending Peace Conference. With all that news, and paper being scarce, a visit by president-elect Lincoln to Indiana got only six lines of press.
