Additional Details

This elaborate production was apparently rushed out during the earliest days of the rebellion, before the first shot was fired. It features large inset portraits of Lincoln and Generals Scott and Wool, as well as Major Anderson of Fort Sumter and Lieutenant Slemmer of Fort Pickens. A map of the United States is color-coded to show free, slave, and border states. Virginia and North Carolina are shown as undecided, placing the publication before mid-April. The engravings are accompanied by biographies of Lincoln's cabinet and charts on state population, presidential election tallies, and more. Only 2 copies of this impressive display have been found at auction; 2 copies in WorldCat.
