Additional Details

An uncommon Union wallpaper newspaper published by a member of the 41st Massachusetts Volunteers after the occupation of the city. Brigham, Wallpaper Newspapers of the Civil War (in Bibliographical Essays: A Tribute to Wilberforce Eames) lists two issues bracketing this one, 22 April and 25 April 1830, but makes no mention of one from this date.
The "Personal" column of this issue features a sarcastic note about several recently-captured Confederate naval officers who were visiting New Orleans under care of the Provost-Marshal: "Their business engagements are of such a character as will probably render their stay in the Crescent city one of some duration." All of the paper's advertisements were dated from prior to the Union occupation, including two official Confederate notices that the new publisher apparently neglected to strike out. Also features an illustrated runaway slave advertisement.
