Corporal Lafayette Bills (1824-1886) wrote this letter shortly after enlisting in the 2nd Kentucky Infantry: "Providence or something else has thrown me here to live or die in the Southern Confederacy. . . . The people in this vicinity upon the secession question are all of one mind." He also asks for assistance in moving his family from Kentucky to Tennessee.
