Includes a 19th-century 11-page transcript of a genealogical letter from the future general Leonidas Polk to his distant cousin, President James K Polk, 17 January 1849. He concludes: "I have yet to hear of the first Polk who has been hung, or put in the penitentiary, and that in these times is no small distinction." Most items are unsigned, but descended in the family through Leonidas''s son Alexander H. Polk.
