John Quincy Marr, captain of the Warrenton Rifles of Virginia, was the lone Confederate fatality at the 1 June 1861 Battle of Fairfax Court House, the first skirmish of the Civil War. with--a signed carte-de-visite photograph of Benjamin Howard Shackelford, Marr's replacement--he took command of the Warrenton Riles after Marr's death.
