Additional Details

While Union muster rolls are not particularly scarce, we don't often see Confederate muster rolls. This regiment was formed from Alabama and Mississippi regiments which had been decimated at Shiloh, then suffered heavy losses at Murfreesboro. Almost all of the soldiers in this particular company had been recruited in Daviston, AL. This roll covers the March and April following Murfreesboro, and shows a unit further depleted by ten men captured at Rover, TN and another at Crab Orchard, KY, with nine others absent sick, and one private who was deceased. As all three commissioned officers and the company's official records had been captured in Rover, the company had been consolidated with two others.
