Additional Details

Elijah Webb was the clerk at Anderson Court House in inland South Carolina, writing during the second day of fighting at the Battle of Fort Sumter which began the war. After reporting on a search for a deed at the town record office, Webb writes "War, war, fighting in Charles. God deliver our country from blood shed."
