The Port Hudson Morning Courier, also known as merely The Courier as this extra is titled, began printing in January 1863, making this extra one of their earliest issues. OCLC locates only 6 institutions with copies of the paper, the earliest being volume 1, number 14 dated January 21, 1863. The paper ceased publication once the town was put under siege by Union forces in late May 1863.<
