a most unusual image of two drummers, one black, the other white, part of the Tonica, Illinois 'Cornet Band.' Why these two were photographed together, and the rest of the band---presumably cornet (a type of trumpet) players were not, is a mystery. We have dated this based on the photographer, L.R. Thayer who was active in Tonica in 1881.
