Additional Details

David L. Ash was a lieutenant in the 37th Illinois Infantry, which skirmished with Quantrill's Raiders and other partisans in southwestern Missouri. This letter describes a recent scouting expedition after partisans who "skedaddled back into the mountains." It is mainly of interest for Ash's unusual hand-drawn letter sheet. Ash is listed in Wolf's "The American Jew as Patriot, Soldier and Citizen," page 136.
