Additional Details

This letter is addressed to Capt. Pennock of the U.S. Navy, and concerns a sailor named Henry Cohen who had been arrested for a robbery on board the U.S. Gunboat Baron de Kalb. The author noted that "A friend of mine by the name of Henry Cohen is missing since nearly three years . . . I have received several letters from his parents in Europe praying to find something out about him." Jacoby's letter was forwarded two other naval offers for response; it bears the signatures of A.M. Pennock and Admiral David Dixon Porter on verso.
