Produced in the wake of Sherman's March to the Sea, this extremely detailed survey shows almost the entirety of Georgia including Atlanta and Athens, as well as most of South Carolina including Columbia and Charleston. Small portions of Alabama and Florida are also shown. This copy has been marked with the route of the 14th and 15th Army Corps from Atlanta to Savannah, and then north through South Carolina. A scarce map; none have been traced at auction. Provenance: from the papers of Major Frank Bakewell James (1842-1916) of the 52nd Ohio Infantry. with--James's calling card and original storage envelope.
