Hand-colored map, 33 1/2 x 49 1/2 inches, with battle sites underlined in red as issued; unbacked, with substantial wear to edges and folds including several half-inch areas of loss at the intersection of folds; original owner's routes marked in pencil and ink, signed "Lieut. Additional Details

First edition. "Drawn and engraved from actual surveys and used by our commanders." Also shows most of Kentucky from Louisville down, as well as small portions of neighboring states. This copy is marked with the movements of the 52nd Ohio across the region in 1862 and 1863, often with dates, starting with their muster in Cincinnati and continuing through to Georgia (see lot 104). They fought at Perryville, Chickamauga, and elsewhere. Provenance: from the papers of Major Frank Bakewell James (1842-1916) of the 52nd Ohio Infantry.
