Additional Details

This map shows eastern Maryland and eastern Virginia, including towns, forts, major roads, and railroads. It indicates only one battlefield, First Bull Run: "Battle, July 21st, 1861." Ball's Bluff was the next major battle in this theatre, on 21 October, and is not indicated. Several other maps were published with this same title, but only two copies of the Wells map appear in OCLC. One other copy known at auction, Swann sale, 10 October 2013, lot 128 (used in January 1862).
