Additional Details

This map depicts the siege lines north of Atlanta, with the north-west at the bottom of the map. The artist who drew this map is unidentified, but he was almost certainly with the Union army. Six of the Union army corps are named and located, with colored American flags denoting four headquarters, and even two sutler's tents prominently noted. In contrast, the territory within the Confederate lines is comparatively less detailed, although "Rebel camps" and "Rebel breastworks" are noted. The buildings of downtown Atlanta east of the rail lines are depicted in some detail at the top of the map. The no-man's land between the opposing breastworks is depicted as heavily wooded, with sharpened brush and advance skirmish pits on each side.
