Engraved folding map, 27 3/4 x 37 3/4 inches, mounted into original 1862 gilt-lettered stiff glazed wrappers with moderate wear, 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch; map is crisp and fresh with minor dampstaining, minimal wear in margins, additional route from Virginia to Gettysburg added faintly in pencil; pencil inscription on inner wrapper reading "D B Langston, Company K, 3rd Ga. Reg't, Anderson's Division." Richmond, VA: West & Johnston, 1862

first edition. All of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware is shown, along with small parts of neighboring states; the cartographer had the foresight to squeeze in Gettysburg just under the cartouche. The map is illustrated with an inset view of Capitol Square in Richmond. The original owner, David B. Langston, reached the rank of captain of the 3rd Georgia Infantry in the Confederate army, commanding its Company K, otherwise known as the Athens Guards. He was wounded at Chancellorsville.
