Additional Details

A Confederate depiction of General McClellan's Peninsula Campaign of 1862, in which he failed to capture Richmond. It was published in 1864, as suggested by an 18 July 1864 Richmond Daily Dispatch note unearthed by Boston Rare Maps: 'Mr. Charles Ludwig, of this city, has recently published and secured the copyright for a map showing the battle grounds of the Chickahominy, and the positions of the subsequent engagements in the movements of the Federal army towards James River and all the other points of interest in connection with the siege of Richmond. It seems to be well and accurately executed, and at this juncture cannot fall to be interesting to the public.' Parrish & Willingham 6201; no other copies known at auction.
