Additional Details

The map was compiled in the Topographical Engineers office under General Irvin McDowell, drawn by J.J. Young and W. Hesselbach, and engraved by J. Schedler in New York. It depicts northeastern Virginia in great detail, an area which played host to many of the most important battles of the war including Manassas, Fredericksburg and more. The village of Hillsboro is at the northwest, Washington and a bit of Maryland are in the northeast, the village of Germanna in the southwest, and the mouth of the Potomac to the southeast. None traced at auction.
