Additional Details

A large-scale map of the theater of war in eastern Virginia, including rail lines and topographical features. The caption describes it as "a map to mark the change of positions of the Union forces in red pencil and the rebel forces in blue, on the receipt of every telegram from the seat of war." The present example has been used as intended, with blue and red markings denoting the December 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg, as well as scattered other markings showing the defenses at Washington, Richmond, and elsewhere.
