Additional Details

The artist was a corporal in the 1st Massachusetts Infantry. Through April 1862, they wintered at Camp Hooker in Charles County, MD, on the Potomac south of Alexandria, VA and Washington. This is a photographic copy of the original drawing, possibly produced for publication. Other examples are held at the Providence Public Library and Harvard University. One example was published in Brookline Historical Publications Society #10, 1897. Provenance: collection of Arthur G. "Gil" Barrett.
