Additional Details

This piece of sheet music may have been inspired by the formation of the great United States Colored Troops regiments in 1863, but as written in dialect by one of the founders of blackface minstrelsy, it offers a mocking perspective on black patriotism: "Dar's someting rong a brewin' / Gwine to join the Union!" The song was "sung with great success at Bryant's Minstrels."
