(CIVIL WAR--NAVY.) Pair of large photographs of Monitor-class vessels and their crews on the James River. Albumen photographs, each 6 x 8 inches, on original plain mounts with pencil captions; the Mahopac/Lehigh with moderate wear to mount and a small adhesion in the bottom area of the photo, and the Sangamon with more edge wear. Additional Details

One of these photographs is inscribed in pencil with the name of the monitor USS Mahopac, but is generally identified in other sources as being the USS Lehigh, and the National Archives has a copy in its Mathew Brady collection captioned as "Deck of Monitor on James River, Va." The other is captioned in pencil as the USS Sangamon, which accords with the Library of Congress identification.
