Additional Details

Charles Porter (1838-1902) was a career army officer on the frontier, and served as a sergeant and lieutenant in the 5th U.S. Infantry during the Civil War. He later rose to the rank of colonel. His account of the oft-forgotten Civil War on the southwestern frontier was published from a different manuscript in 1964.
