Additional Details

This clothing catalogue is of interest for two reasons. It begins with an illustration of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Thumb, the circus performers who were married in February 1863; on the second page is a related poem titled "The Fairy Wedding." The store was very near Barnum's American Museum, Tom Thumb's main haunt; both the store and the museum would be destroyed by a fire in July 1865.
The pamphlet is also of Civil War interest, with a cadet's uniform illustrated on page 5, an illustration of General Burnside wearing their uniform on the rear cover, and a long poem titled "the Generals of the Union," boasting that the Generals Burnside, McClellan, Hooker, Sigel, and Butler all shopped at "Rogers & Raymond, the true Union tailors." None traced in OCLC or at auction, and possibly a unique survival.
