(CIVIL WAR--OHIO.) The Union Defenders Discharge. Chromolithograph form, 17 x 13 inches, with a bit of red and tan silk (possibly a fragment of a regimental flag) affixed to image area, and manuscript completions mostly faded beyond legibility; minor toning and wear. [Cincinnati]: Mack R. Barnitz, 1863

Additional Details

An attractive piece designed to be presented to returning veterans. None others have been traced. A note on the back of the frame, apparently made before the manuscript completions had faded so badly, reads "Joseph H. Wilson, discharged 1866 March 10." One line which can still be read states that Wilson was born in Noble County, which identifies him as the Joseph H. Wilson who enlisted in the 25th Ohio Infantry in June 1861, and was a sergeant upon his discharge in March 1866.
