Album of cartes-de-visite of the 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. 11 albumen photographs, each about 3 1/2 x 2 inches on original mounts, many with period signatures or identifications, all inserted into period album. 12mo, original calf, moderate wear; front hinge split, minor wear and toning to contents, a few addressed inscribed on front free endpaper; inscribed by original owner on flyleaf. Additional Details

The 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery served at Gettysburg, and served as guards for Jefferson Davis at Fort Monroe after the fall of Richmond. 7 of these 11 soldiers have been positively identified as members of the regiment, from several different companies. Officers include Captain Frederick Korte, Assistant Surgeon Francis Kern, and most notably Captain Erskine Miles whose inscription reads "had charge of Jeff Davis as prisoner in Civil War." The album is signed "Wm Sinclair, 1st Lieut., 3rd Art." A detailed list of photographs is available upon request.
